Small Shape Has Many Functions

At present who is not familiar with the SIM card, of course, in modern times hardly anyone who does not know at this smart card. SIM or Subscriber Identity Module, or could be easily interpreted as the identity of the customer. 

Who is the inventor of this powerful tool? This smart cards were first made by Giesecke and Devrient the banking documents services company in Munich, Germany. Its name was taken from the two founders, namely Hermann Giesecke and Alphonse Devrient. The company was founded in 1852. Giesecke and Devrient was first made SIM card in 1991 for telecom operators in Finland. 

After that, the use of SIM cards to be developed along with the increasing number of people in this world who use mobile phones. A SIM is placed on a removable SIM card that can be transferred to different mobile device. SIM cards were first made of the same size as a credit card (85.60 mm x 53.98 mm x 0.76 mm). 

Development of mobile devices that are physically smaller drive the development of a smaller SIM card or commonly called the mini-SIM card. Mini-SIM is more popular because it has the same thickness with a length of 25 mm and 15 mm wide, and has one of its corners chamfered to prevent incorrect installation. 

The latest generation is known as micro-SIM or 3FF, having dimensions 15 mm x 12 mm. SIM card stores information related to the network that is used for authentication and user identification. 

The most important data is the card identification number (ICCID / integrated circuit card ID), international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI), authentication key (Ki), local area identity (LAI), and the operator emergency number call, SIM also stores the number to the SMS service center (SMSC / short message service center), service provider name (SPN), and others.
